Getting Started

I claimed my bar. What should I do first?

Start by reviewing your public listing and making sure the important information is accurate.

A good first pass is:

  • General bar information
  • Features and amenities
  • Website and social links
  • Photos
  • Menu
  • Happy Hour
  • Drink and food specials
  • Events and entertainment

You don’t have to make everything perfect at once. Start with anything a customer would notice if it were wrong.

Where do I find my Owner Tools?

Log in to The Bar Examiner, open My Account, and scroll to Owner Tools.

That’s your starting point for managing your claimed listing, updating specials, accessing printables, and using the other tools available to bar owners.

See the Bar Owner Guide for the full walkthrough.

Where do I find my claimed bar?

Go to My Account → Owner Tools → Claimed Listings.

Select your bar’s name or image to open its public listing.

If a bar you claimed does not appear, use Owner Support and we’ll take a look.

Do I have to change anything after claiming my listing?

No. Claiming your listing simply gives you access to the owner tools available for that bar.

If everything already looks correct, great. We still recommend reviewing the listing once so you know what customers are seeing.

Managing Your Listing

How do I edit my bar’s information?

Open your claimed bar’s public listing.

Below the listing header, open the small gear icon and choose Edit Listing.

Make your changes and choose Submit when you’re finished.

See the Bar Owner Guide for screenshots and step-by-step instructions.

What is the little gear icon on my listing?

That’s the owner action menu.

Depending on what’s available for your listing, it gives you access to tools such as Edit Listing, Add Media, and Edit Media.

What if information was already wrong when I claimed my bar?

If the information is available through Edit Listing, simply correct it and submit the change.

If you can’t change something yourself, use Owner Support and tell us what needs attention.

I changed something but don’t see the change. What should I do?

First, make sure you selected Save or Submit for the information you changed.

Uploaded media may also require review before appearing publicly.

If the change still doesn’t appear or something looks wrong, send us an Owner Support request.

Specials & Events

How do I update my specials?

Go to My Account → Owner Tools → Edit / Share Specials.

If you manage one bar, The Bar Examiner may take you directly to that bar’s Specials Editor.

You can currently manage sections including:

  • Happy Hour
  • Drink Specials
  • Food Specials
  • General Specials
  • Events

Choose Save beside the section you changed.

Do I have to save the entire Specials page every time?

No. Each specials section has its own Save button.

If you only changed Happy Hour, for example, you only need to save Happy Hour.

How often should I update my specials?

Whenever something changes.

It’s also a good idea to periodically review time-sensitive information even when you think nothing has changed.

Simple rule: If a customer would be annoyed because the information was wrong, update it.

Why is the Share button unavailable for one of my specials?

A special needs to contain configured, saved information before its Share option becomes available.

Enter or update the special, save that section, and then check the Share option again.

What are Owner Specials Notes?

Owner Specials Notes are private notes associated with your Specials Editor. They are not intended as public promotional text.

Photos & Media

How do I add photos to my listing?

Open your bar’s public listing and choose Add Media near the top of the listing, or open the owner gear menu and choose Add Media.

Accept the Terms & Conditions and upload your files.

See the Bar Owner Guide for the visual walkthrough.

How many photos can I upload?

Claimed listings currently support up to 6 images and 1 current menu PDF.

The upload screen shows the current file requirements and limits.

Can I choose which photo is my main image?

Uploaded images can be assigned for uses such as your main or hero image, logo, or gallery photos.

Use the media tools available from your listing to manage them.

Why didn’t my uploaded photo appear immediately?

The Bar Examiner reviews owner-uploaded media before public display.

This helps keep listing media relevant and appropriate.

How do I change or remove existing media?

Open your claimed listing, select the owner gear, and choose Edit Media.

If the listing doesn’t currently have media attached, you may instead see an option to Add Media.

Can I upload my menu?

Yes. Claimed listings currently support one menu PDF.

If your menu changes, replace the old version so customers aren’t relying on outdated information.

Sharing & Promotion

Can I share my specials on Facebook?

Yes.

From the Specials Editor you can share configured specials. You can also open View Your Promotions and use Share Reminder for a simple reminder linking people to your current TBE specials.

Facebook uses the Facebook account already signed in on that device.

What does Quick Share / Share Reminder do?

It gives you a simple way to send people to your current specials on The Bar Examiner.

It’s useful when you want to remind followers that your current specials are available without creating a separate promotion.

Does Share Reminder use one of my promotion spots?

No. The standard Quick Share / Share Reminder links people to your current TBE specials page without using a promotion spot.

Printables

Can I print something showing customers we’re on The Bar Examiner?

Yep.

Go to My Account → Owner Tools → Printables.

Choose your bar, select the message and sign size, and preview your sign.

What printable sizes are available?

The Printables tool includes several layouts. Check the Printables screen for the sizes currently available.

Account & Access

Can another manager or employee manage my bar?

If another person needs ongoing access to manage the listing, please don’t simply start sharing account passwords.

Use Owner Support and tell us what you’re trying to accomplish so we can help determine the cleanest way to handle access.

What if I can’t find my claimed listing?

Go to My Account → Owner Tools → Claimed Listings first.

If the bar still isn’t there, use Owner Support.

What if I accidentally screw something up?

Most editable listing information can simply be corrected again.

If you can’t figure out what happened or aren’t comfortable changing it, send us an Owner Support request.

We’d much rather help fix something than have you leave incorrect information up because you’re worried about breaking something.
